Gaspare: La mia pittura

Provo una sorta di smarrimento quando mi accingo a descrivere la mia pittura. Come potrò spiegare il mondo delle immagini in cui sono nato e cresciuto? Come far capire che l’unico mezzo che ho avuto per non sentirmi “dissolto” sono stati sin da subito i miei disegni , i miei dipinti che stupivano le maestre? Grazie a quel mondo posso dire di aver vissuto una vita enorme, e di essere stato sempre molto legato alle emozioni che l’hanno resa tale, anche quando per esse ho dovuto pagare prezzi molto alti.
La qualità dell’immaginazione che mi ha sempre accompagnato (aborrisco il termine “fantasia”), mi ha portato in modo automatico a trovarmi inserito in quella branca della pittura surrealista che ha preso il nome di pittura metafisica. I miei lavori, tecnicamente accuratissimi, non sono così eseguiti per stupire grazie all’abilità che comunque li cotraddistingue, ma per rendere verisimili situazioni normalmente non credibili. Le mie illustrazioni svelano in modo non ostentato un’altra realtà, nascosta ed enigmatica. Sentimento del contrario... contraddizione non fittizia ma essenziale...coscienza come specchio interiore in cui il pensiero vede se stesso (vocabolario pirandelliano)... come potrei vivere senza l’enigma! (De Chirico)... questa non è una pipa (Magritte)... Su questi concetti si sviluppa il percorso della mia Arte che io interpreto come evocazione del mistero.
Questa definizione dell’Arte può sembrare troppo astratta, troppo oscura per chi non abbia attitudine a considerare le profonde correlazioni che esistono tra anima e corpo, arte e vita; ma in nostro aiuto può giungere la figura di Narciso che, nella solitudine del vasto mondo dell’essere, trova, attraverso la metamorfosi, un appiglio in un’altra immagine di sè e della realtà. L’esperienza del mondo viene vista da noi con figure che non decadono né muoiono. Esse si trasformano generando, con la loro metamorfosi, una luce che illumina, dischiude, rende praticabile una nuova regione delle immagini, misteriosa ma percorribile.
E questo processo si esprime attraverso metafore, piccoli e grandi racconti, e con esso il soggetto riconquista a fianco dell’anima il suo corpo (faccio miei pensieri di Franco Rella tratti dal suo libro “Pensare per figure” Ed. Pendragon, 1999 ,pg,.134)
Quando espongo le mie opere al pubblico assisto allo stupore dei visitatori che, attratti da ciò che si cela alla loro comprensione, mi pongono molte domande. Ma ogni tanto qualcuno mi dice quasi tutto, senza che io parli...

Gaspare: My painting

I feel a sort of bewilderment whenever I start explaining my painting. How can I describe the world of imagery where I was born and grown up? How can I make people understand that the only way I had not to feel myself “dissolved” were, from
the start, my drawings and paintings that made my school teachers amazed? Thanks to that world I can say that I lived an enormous life and I was always strongly attached to
the emotions that made all this possible, even when I had to pay a very high price for them.
It’s the quality of the imagination that has always kept me company ( I abhor the word fantasy ) that brought automatically into the branch of surrealistic painting called methaphysical painting. My works, extremely accurate tecnically, are not made that way in order to amaze for the skill which anyway characterizes them. They are made like that, to make likely those situations that are normally unlikely. My drawings reveal without ostentation another reality, concealed and enigmatic. Sense of contrary... contradiction which is not fictitious but essential ... conscience as an inner mirror in which the thought can see itself (Pirandello’s vocabulary)... how could I live without enigma! (De Chirico) ... this is not a pipe (Magritte)... My art, which I conceive as evocation of mistery, journeys on these concepts.
This definition of art may seem too abstract and obscure for those that have not an aptitude for thinking over the deep connections existing between soul and body, art and life. However fhe figure of Narcissus can be of help, in the wide world of existence through “Metamorphosis” it will find support in another image of itself and of another reality. The experience of the world is seen by us through figures which neither decay nor die. They change through metamorphosis and send out a light which reveals, enlightens and explores a new region of images, misterious but practicable.
This process develops through metaphors, short or long tales, and therefore the character regains the body beside the soul (I take F. Rella’s thoughts as mine. See his book “Pensare per figure” (Thinking through images ).
One thing I notice when I display my pictures is the wonder of those visitors who are attracted by what cannot be grasped by them and ask many questions. And everynow and then someone manages to tell me almost everything, without my speaking...
